Electric Locomotive FS E 645 1st series
Electric Locomotive E 645 012 (1st series) of the FS.
In 1959 it was planned the construction of locomotives destined to form the group E 646. Esthetically similar to the E 636, they differed essentially in the use of one double engine per axle.
The first 5 formed the group E 646 1st series, while the remaining 31, with different ration of transmission, formed the group E 645. The livery was in traditional brown with high profile logos on the front of the loco. Pantographs are in painted in red and once again FS type 52 are adopted. The working headlights have automatic inversion of the lights, and by means of a switch, it could either be powered from the wheels or by overhead pickup
Wheel arrangement Bo+BO+Bo. This type of locomotive is for use on goods service thus assigned to group E 646. The external structure is with the sole exception of a different ration of transmission, the electro mechanical apparatus is identical, The Difference in the Livery as the brown “Castano Isabella” is adopted.
