Steam Locomotive 4-6-0 "Hector" Class 6P LMS
Steam locomotive with tender, no.6140 named “Hector” of the London Midland and
Scottish Railway (LMS). Wheel arrangement 4-6-0.
An impressive locomotive of the LMS, which appeared in 1927, was the
three-cylinder
Class 6P “Royal Scot”.
By the end of 1927 all
fifty units of the first batch were placed in service, and among them also no.
6140, named Hector, after a veteran locomotive of the LNWR. Such name it carried
until 1936, when, by renaming all the class locos after Regiments of the British
Army, it was renamed "The King's Royal Rifle Corps”.
As it turned out from running experience, the need arose for modifications to
help convey the smoke away from the drivers’ view. Therefore different smoke
deflectors were tried, on the sides of the smoke box. Good results were obtained
with the smoke deflectors, with the top half’s slanted inwards. These
modifications, started in the early thirties, were applied to various
locomotives, no. 6140 among them.
This model reproduces no. 6140 "Hector", as running in 1935.
The fine gearing is fully operational and great care has been put into the detail of the livery, lining, and numbering.
